Community Health Advisors Network

Community Health Advisors (also called Community Health Workers, Health Advocates, Health Navigators and other titles) are natural helpers that exist in every community who, when mobilized, help communities address health disparities. Natural helpers are trusted persons to whom others go for advice, assistance, or help in resolving personal or family needs. These individuals may be paid staff or volunteers, and they bridge the gap between community residents and healthcare systems.

The Southwest Georgia Cancer Coalition enlists the help of Community Health Advisors (CHAs) in a number of programs and recognizes their important role in reducing cancer-related disparities. To help support development and promotion of CHAs, our Cancer Coalition participates in the Georgia Community Health Advisors Network. This Network is a statewide coalition committed to sharing information and best practices in implementing and evaluating CHA programs across the state. The CHA Network offers statewide conferences and is currently exploring the development of a core competency training program for CHAs involved in disease detection and management programs.
