Cancer Research in Southwest Georgia
The Coalition is committed to understanding why Southwest Georgia suffers from high cancer rates and high numbers of cancer deaths. Our diverse research portfolio ranges from public health surveys to tumor specimen collection to clinical trials expansion to long-term monitoring of large groups of people. Clinical trials may offer individuals the best hope for fighting cancer. The Coalition works to increase the number of clinical trials available locally and to facilitate access to those trials. Through our prevention research, we learn what influences our residents’ high-risk behaviors and health-related choices, including the unique influences in our rural settings. Working together with distinguished academic faculty ensures that we meet rigorous research standards. Our research results provide evidence that guides our activities and ultimately leads to better prevention, detection and treatment of cancer close to home. Resources for Professional Researchers
