Baker County Collaborative, Inc. Makes Donation to Local Cancer Screening Efforts
The Baker County Collaborative, Inc., a family connection collaborative, believes that its families should be strong and stable. However, families in Baker County are not as strong and stable as they should be. Health costs related to cancer screenings are high, and research indicates that Southwest Georgia and Baker County in particular, have a higher rate of cancer than other parts of the state.
Because of this rate, and because many adults in Baker County are uninsured, the collaborative has made a donation of $1000 to the Southwest Georgia Cancer Coalition for their efforts to improve cancer outcomes in our region. The SWGCC has created a pilot study in Baker County that aims to improve cancer screening rates in rural communities through the use of a Community Health Navigator in primary care office setting. This study, Baker County, GA: Navigating to #1 in Cancer Screening targets uninsured patients and those without a primary care doctor with the ultimate goal being to save more Georgians through cancer awareness/education and early detection.
The Baker County Collaborative donation is to be administered by Baker County Primary Care and used to increase to benefit the uninsured citizens of Baker County who participate in the Southwest Georgia Cancer Coalition’s program. Funding will be used for screening of cancer and other services related to cancer screenings.
Baker County Collaborative is proud to be a part of Baker County and hopes that this donation can make a difference in some of the lives of its citizens.
