One of the goals of the Southwest Georgia Cancer Coalition is to eliminate cancer-related disparities in rural Southwest Georgia. Toward that goal, the Coalition is providing community health navigation services as part of a pilot project to assess the impact of coordinating cancer screening and follow-up services for the uninsured, in partnership with local healthcare providers serving residents of Baker County, GA.
In cooperation with the Emory Prevention Research Center, we are currently evaluating the feasibility of providing community health navigation services and its impact on screening rates among the uninsured and under-insured. The evaluation will allow us to identify critical factors necessary to successfully replicate this cancer screening model in other Southwest Georgia communities.
