In 2003, our Coalition's leadership originated the idea of a long-term, Framingham-type study to determine cancer risks in Southwest Georgia. In 2006, the Georgia Cancer Coalition received funding for this project and has begun to implement the study across the state.
We were pleased to be chosen as the first rural site to initiate this major study. Dr Jack Mandel, Emory epidemiology professor and well-known researcher, is leading this effort. Dr. Mandel and his team met with Coalition Board members and staff in September 2006. and the study launched in February 2007 in Crisp County. For more information, or to enroll, please visit www.sph.emory.edu/gcs or call Toni Chociemski, GCS Study Coordinator, at 404-727-8154.
