Professor of Public Health and GCC Distinguished Cancer Scholar in the Department of Health Policy and Management at Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University and Health Research Scientist at Atlanta Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Lipscomb joined Emory in 2004 from the National Cancer Institute, where he had been chief of the Outcomes Research Branch since it was established under his leadership in 1999. Prior to that, he had been on the faculty of Duke University. Dr. Lipscomb’s research has focused on the theory and practice of health outcomes measurement, technology assessment, cost-effectiveness analysis, and health workforce planning and evaluation. He recently has been awarded two grants funded by the CDC: A population-based investigation of the determinants of patient discontinuation of cancer therapy (2005-2007, 355K), and a breast and prostate cancer quality-of-care study (2005-2008, 851K). He is a co-investigator on a number of other studies as well. Dr. Lipscomb has published more than 70 scientific articles and book chapters and actively participates on national committees related to cancer.
