James McGahee, Jr., CPA, joined the Hospital staff in May, 1982. From 1979 until 1982 he was the Corporate Controller for the Scruggs Company, a highway contracting company. For the five years prior to that time he was a partner with Charlton L. Davis & Company, P.C., certified public accountants. Mr. McGahee served as Chief Financial Officer at the Hospital from 1982 until 1992. He assumed the position of Chief Operating Officer in 1992. Mr. McGahee served as Chief Operating Officer until July 2000 when he was named Chief Executive Officer.

Mr. McGahee holds a B.S. degree in Mathematics from Georgia Southern College. He received his B.B.A. in Accounting and his M.B.A. in Finance from Valdosta State College. He is a member and has served as treasurer of the North Valdosta Rotary Club. He is a member and past president of the Valdosta Country Club and Valdosta Chapter of the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is also a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Georgia Hospital Association, and is an associate member of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Mr. McGahee is a member of the Southwest Georgia Cancer Coalition Board of Directors. Mr. McGahee is the board chairman of the Lowndes County Partnership for Health. Mr. McGahee serves on the Harley Langdale, Jr. College of Business Administration’s Business Alumni Advisory Board at Valdosta State University, and he is on the Valdosta Technical College Board of Directors. Mr. McGahee is a member of the Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs Committee and the Partnership for Metropolitan Development.

Mr. McGahee and his wife, Catherine, have one daughter, Ashley. Ashley is a recent graduate of VSU majoring in Business. Mr. McGahee enjoys golfing, boating and bird hunting.
